MOST FAMOUS WINE REGION OF ITALY:

In the very small DOC area of Barolo, a good vineyard can cost more than a flat in Hong Kong. We explored the region in our 2015 tour and enjoyed the original cuisine, grand wines and excursions through vineyards and cellars. Castles and medieval villages dot the hills, witnesses of the frequently changing borders of kingdoms in the past.

OUTSTANDING WINE:

Barolo is called the King of Italian wines and has very good ageing potential. Every winery has it's special style and variation which we sampled and compared. Nebbiolo is the younger version, both are made of Nebbiolo grapes, but it get's barrel aged less and can be drunk younger. There are also many Dolcettos and Barberas from the region and a few whites with good body to hold up with the hearty local dishes.

OUR TIPS:

Visit the castle of Serralunga d'Alba for a birds-eye view of the Barolo region. On good days you can see as far as the Alps.

Spring or Fall

ITINERARY:

Starting from Milan or Turin, drive to Alba and discover the surroundings south and west until Dogliano. Visit Asti for a taste of the famous moscato wines, and if you come in fall, don't miss the Alba Truffle market!
